Dozens of objections have been raised over a plan to build more homes on a former city golf course with one saying it will be a “blot on the landscape.”

The application would see six new homes built off The Fairway next to Worcester’s Tolladine Road under plans by Tustin Holdings.

The land on the former golf course is protected green space but has also been included as a potential site for up to 15 new homes in the ongoing review of the South Worcestershire Development Plan (SWDP).

A number of objections have been submitted to Worcester City Council planners including residents in The Fairway, Tolladine Avenue and Kenwood Avenue.

Nick Franklin of Kenwood Avenue said the homes would spoil the area and damage its green space.

“I object strongly to this proposal,” he said. “The area is currently under development by Platform and additional housing in such a prominent green space above Worcester is not only spoiling that area, but also changing the inner-city green space forever.

“This area is used extensively by local people.

“The ground slopes steeply towards the city and will leave this new development a prominent blot on the landscape.”

Another objection from a resident in The Fairway said: “Environmentally it is an absolute joke in that we are all being told to protect our environment and here we are eroding the ‘lung’ capacity of our city by reducing the natural flora of the area with the ensuing effect on local fauna.

“The positioning of the properties will be another disaster as it will result in them being in clear view on the skyline.”

Another resident in The Fairway objecting to the plan added: “Having now had the 16 dwellings built above The Fairway it is quite clear how imposing the site is and prominent on the local landscape overlooking many of the resident’s houses. It’s a blot on the landscape.”

Warndon Parish Council has also objected to the plan saying the housing target for the area has already been exceeded.

The homes would sit on the northern tip of the former Tolladine golf course next to 16 affordable homes being built by Platform Housing.
