A plan to build almost a hundred homes on the edge of the city looks set to be approved by councillors.

Major developer St Modwen has put forward plans to build 89 homes on land between the A4440 Southern Link Road and Taylor’s Lane on the edge of Worcester as part of wider proposals to build up to 255 homes on the land.

But whilst the homes would be built on the edge of the city, it will be Malvern Hills councillors that will make a decision.

The district council’s planning committee meets next Wednesday (July 7) with a recommendation from planning officers that the proposals are approved.

The new homes would be the second phase of St Modwen’s development, which was granted overall approval in 2017.

The first phase will see 36 homes built on the site after the plans were approved in September last year.

Earlier this year, St Modwen revealed it was joining up with Merton College in Oxford for a huge 240-acre scheme between the M5 and Worcestershire Parkway railway station near Worcester that would see 1,250 homes and 900,000 square feet of employment land built.

The huge scheme would also include a new primary school, shops, and other facilities.

The developer is also behind several other major schemes in and around the city including the nearby Weogoran Park development off Whittington Road.

That latest thousand-home scheme for the edge of the city joined plans for more than 2,200 homes between the city’s St Peters area and Norton.

The urban extension also includes plans for a care home, hotel, schools, a leisure centre and outdoor sports facilities, offices and employment space, allotments, parks and green space, a gym, shops and restaurants.
