Covid numbers rise in Worcestershire

The number of new coronavirus cases recorded in the county almost doubled in the last week.

Public Health England said 454 cases were recorded in the county in the week up to June 25 – a rise of 99 per cent compared to the previous week.

The county’s infection rate is now 76.2 cases per 100,000 people.

The highest infection rate among the county’s six districts is Bromsgrove where 126 cases were recorded in the last week – a rise of 83 per cent compared to the week before.

Bromsgrove’s infection rate stands at 126 cases per 100,000 people.

Figures also show that 76 cases were recorded in Worcester in the same week – a rise of 75 per cent in seven days – meaning the city’s infection rate currently stands at 85.4 cases per 100,000 people.

In the rest of the county, where cases have increased in every area, a total of 80 cases were recorded in Wychavon which includes Evesham, Pershore and Droitwich.

The number of cases in Wychavon increased by 62 per cent in a week and the infection rate in the district is now 110.5 cases per 100,000 people.

Cases have also increased across Malvern Hills where 73 were recorded in the last week – a rise of 170 per cent when compared to the previous week.

The infection rate in Malvern Hills now stands at 92.8 cases per 100,000 people.

Redditch saw 46 new coronavirus cases recorded in the week – a rise of 119 per cent – meaning the infection rate in the district is now 54 cases per 100,000 people.

A total of 53 cases were recorded in Wyre Forest meaning the number of cases increased by 60 per cent in a week.

Wyre Forest’s infection rate is currently 52.3 cases per 100,000 people.
