Emergency traffic lights have been put in place on the A438 at Lugwardine Bridge.

Balfour Beatty Living Places, working together with Herefordshire Council, have implemented a lane closure on the A438, following significant damage to the Lugwardine Bridge.

The bridge wall has been hit by a passing vehicle and initial inspections have found the damage is so significant that the wall must be taken down and rebuilt.

Lugwardine Bridge is a Grade II listed structure and crosses over the River Lugg Site of Special Scientific Interest, meaning liaison with building conservation officers and other authorities such as Natural England is required before the repairs can be carried out.

Temporary traffic lights have been put in place to ensure the safety of passing vehicles and to keep them away from the damaged wall. The repair works are anticipated to commence during the summer.
