Located in Herefordshire, and around eight miles away from the England-Wales border, is the town of Ross-on-Wye.
A truly unique town, that viewed from a distance rises above the river Wye, giving it an almost Italian feel. With its beautiful streets, great places to eat and drink and its 16th Century sandstone Market House, Ross-On-Wye is a personal favourite of Sunshine Radio.
The town is steeped in tradition, with regular markets and quaint shops and pubs to explore. Ross has a thriving and bustling town centre that is also rich in art. You can enjoy hours exploring it's narrow, winding streets of local stone and black and white timber.
The tranquil Wye Valley, below the town, is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with lush pastures and dense woodlands. Making Ross an ideal touring centre for the valley and surrounding area.
INTERESTING FACT: Ross-on-Wye is said to be the birthplace of British tourism. In the 18th Century, the Rector of Ross developed his Wye Tour along the river from Ross to Chepstow. After taking the tour, William Gilpin published the UK’s first guide book and by the end of the 18th Century the package tour was well established.
