The Great Art Giveaway

John Kyrle 300 and the Market House Legacy encompass a wide range of events celebrating Ross on Wye's renowned philanthropist, John Kyrle, and Ross on Wye’s most iconic historical building, The Market House. This project offers the opportunity to conserve this magnificent building. It has ancient monument status, is steeped in history and is a landmark of Ross-on-Wye town centre. The project is being funded by the Town Council and funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, who provided a grant of £112,000, The Wolfson Foundation and The Pilgrim Trust to enable the works to be carried out.
As part of Ross on Wye’s 2024 celebrations, honouring John Kyrle and the Market House Legacy. Made in Ross, a local artist cooperative, is preparing to give away over 100 hand-made pieces of unique art to the public.
The artists wished to continue the tradition of giving back to the community, a legacy Ross on Wye’s most celebrated benefactor, John Kyrle, began.

Made in Ross, is a cooperative of artists, living within 25 miles of Ross on Wye. The Market House is home to the Made in Ross Gallery, which provides a space for local artists to display and sell their work. Everything has to be original and locally made. In return for use of this wonderful building we stay open seven days a week so tourists and locals can enjoy the building, inside and out. We also promote art within in the community with competitions, guest exhibitions and workshops
Made in Ross are very grateful for the continued support by Ross on Wye Town Council and The Courtyard in Hereford. The Courtyard provide a space for innovation, creativity, and participation for the whole community. As a registered charity they do much for our community. Without the help from The Courtyard MiR wouldn’t be the thriving group it is today.
We are aware of how hard Ross on Wye Town Counc have been working incredibly hard this year trying to make Ross on Wye look the best and be it can, and there have been some challenges!! Soon we will see the newly restored Market House and the Legacy Project. Members of the public will be able to see the newly installed panels, which celebrates the building’s central role in the history of Ross on Wye. MiR are very excited to be able to return to the Market House mid-October.
