Six die from Covid in Worcestershire

Six people in the county died from coronavirus in a week according to the latest figures.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said a total of six people died in hospital in Worcestershire in the week up to September 28.

Two people from Bromsgrove, one person from Redditch, one person from Wyre Forest, another person from Wychavon and one person from Malvern Hills died from Covid-19 where the virus was mentioned on the death certificate in the week.

No deaths were reported in Worcester in the week.

No coronavirus deaths occurred in a care home, hospice, at home, elsewhere or in another communal establishment in the week according to the ONS.

The six deaths in the county in the week follow on from six deaths in the previous week and five deaths in the week before that.

The death figures come as the latest NHS data shows a total of 39 people were in hospital in Worcestershire with coronavirus including two people in intensive care.

Two people were also in the care of Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust on September 28 – the latest day available.

A total of 2,200 new Covid cases were recorded in Worcestershire in the week up to September 30 according to Public Health England – a rise of almost five per cent compared to the week before.

As many as 491 cases were recorded in Wychavon, which includes Evesham, Pershore and Droitwich, in the week – a rise of more than 10 per cent.

The total number of new cases recorded in Wychavon was the highest among the county’s six districts in the week.

The number of new cases in Redditch roughly stayed the same in the week compared to the previous seven days at 482.

A twenty-one per cent rise in Wyre Forest saw cases rise to 419 in the week but cases fell by 12 per cent in Bromsgrove to 403.
