The Worcester Wolves managed to get their first victory of the season after a thrilling encounter against Cardiff Met Archers.

After a tight defeat to CoLA Southwark Pride last week Worcester Wolves were looking to bounce back as quickly as possible to get their first victory of the new season.

Worcester Wolves got off to a flying start taking an early advantage straight away and looking the much stronger team. As the quarter developed, so did the Wolves. With creative and flowing attacks allowing them to extend their early advantage. This continued right to the end seeing the Wolves end the Quarter with a comfortable advantage (17-31).

However, Cardiff Met Archers came out fighting in the second quarter as they put the Wolves under serious pressure. Despite the solid defensive display which the Wolves appeared to have their comfortable advantage had seemingly disappeared with the Wolves only holding a 4-point lead by the end of the quarter.

Heading into the third quarter both teams started to experience some tired legs leading to a much slower tempo to the game with little chances being created by either side. However, as the quarter developed the Wolves remained calm and composed and by being clinical it allowed them to regain a well-deserved 16-point lead heading into the final quarter.

As the final quarter of the match got underway the Wolves adapted a much more defensive tactic as they set out to manage the lead which they had for the entirety of the game. This counter style of play became very effective with a mix of quick, lethal counters and solid teamwork when defending which allowed the Wolves to extend their lead to 18 points giving them a well-deserved 54-72 score line, giving the Wolves their first points of the season.

Carolina Marques led the points scorers for the Wolves with 23 points plus 5 rebounds and 2 steals. Charlotte Finn and Sandra Hewakowska also netted double figures with 11 and 10 points respectively.
