“It’s brilliant! I love working here,” is what any organisation – big or small – likes to hear from its staff.

But for David Robinson his journey into any kind of paid work was not a simple one.

David, who’s 38, joined West Mercia Police in September 2019 as a volunteer after registering with the Down’s Syndrome Association’s (DSA) WorkFit programme after reading about it in a magazine.

And later this month, he is to attend the Queen's Platinum Jubilee - Worcestershire Garden Party, hosted by the Lord-Lieutenant of Worcestershire, in recognition of his outstanding service within his role.

David was nominated by West Mercia’s Chief Constable Pippa Mills after his name was put forward by Superintendent Damian Pettit in response to a force circular about people who go above and beyond, and make a positive difference to policing.

Supt Pettit said: “David is so positive and hard working.

“Individuals who have different abilities have much more limited opportunities for inclusion and paid employment. David has joined a large organisation and that could be quite intimidating for anybody, but it’s so good to see that David has really thrived.”
