A plan to build up to 59 new homes in Droitwich has been put forward.

The homes would be built on six-and-a-half acres of brownfield land between Vines Lane and the busy Roman Way in Droitwich according to an application submitted by developer Avant Homes.

A mix of two-to-four-bed homes and one-bed apartments in a three-storey building would be built including 24 affordable homes.

The land has been earmarked in the South Worcestershire Development Plan (SWDP) and the Droitwich Local Plan as a site for around 100 new homes.

A monument to the Roman settlement in Bays Meadow is located on the land and would become a focal point for part of the green space provided within the new development.

Plans to expand the neighbouring commercial units were approved in 2016 but were then altered several times and eventually scrapped at the end of last year.

The homes would be accessed from a new road built off Vines Lane.

The developer said buffers would be created between the A38 dual carriageway, Doncasters Precision Castings factories and the West Midlands railway line which all border the land.

A statement included in the application by developer Avant Homes said: “The proposals will create a high-quality, sustainable new development with approximately 59 new high-quality homes of a range of types and tenures including 24 new affordable homes to meet the local need.

“Existing planting within the site and along site boundaries will be retained wherever possible. New and enhanced planting will be added across the site as part of a detailed landscape strategy, enhancing proposed new areas of public open space, adding character to the development and creating landscaped buffers including along the northern and southern boundaries.

“The development is well located for local facilities and public transport services, enhancing sustainability by reducing reliance on car travel where possible by being within walking and cycling distance of local shops, schools, parks and recreational facilities.”
