A plan to build 80 new homes on fields between two villages near Worcester has been revealed.

Binocular Land has submitted a planning application asking for permission to build 80 homes on fields off Old Malvern Road between Powick and Collett’s Green near Worcester.

The homes would be built on nearly ten acres of fields on the edge of Powick next to the village’s primary school, parish hall and playing field if the plan is approved by Malvern Hills District Council.

The new estate would be made up of a mix of one-bed apartments, two-to-four-bed homes and several two-bed bungalows – including a number of ‘affordable’ homes.

Part of the fields have been put forward as a potential site for around 25 new homes in the ongoing review of the South Worcestershire Development Plan (SWDP) – the key planning document that sets out where thousands of new homes will be built in the next two decades, which still has not yet been approved after years of delays.

A statement included with the application said: “The proposal represents a high-quality development, and through the provision of the illustrative masterplan provides a clear and logical layout, and a clear relationship between buildings, routes and open spaces, and which responds positively to the settlement patterns of Powick and Collett’s Green.”

A decision is still to be made over an appeal on a controversial plan to build just four homes in Collett’s Green.

Malvern Hills District Council turned down a plan by H2land to build the four-and-five-bed homes last year saying it would have a negative impact on the village.

The developer turned to the government’s planning inspector, which has the power to veto the council, in a bid to get the decision overturned.

More than 70 objections were made against the plan by villagers in Powick who condemned the plan for adding to problems on the ‘rat run’ Collett’s Green Road which had seen regularly seen cars speeding and was ‘an accident waiting to happen.’
