The number of new coronavirus cases recorded in the county has continued to rise according to the latest figures.

A total of 3,252 cases were recorded in Worcestershire in the week up to July 18 – a 63 per cent rise compared to the previous week.

Cases in the county have increased 175 per cent in the last fortnight and 1,165 per cent in the last month.

The latest figures give an idea of the number of people with coronavirus in the county in the week before the majority of government lockdown restrictions were lifted in England on July 19.

The highest number of cases among the county’s six districts remains in Worcester where 734 cases were recorded in the last week – 38 per cent more than the previous week.

The number of cases in Worcester dropped slightly from 764 in the week up to July 16 but still remains the highest in the county.

Elsewhere in the county, 679 cases were recorded in Bromsgrove in the week up to July 18 where cases increased by 57 per cent compared to the previous seven days.

A total of 518 cases were recorded in Wychavon, which includes Evesham, Pershore and Droitwich.

Cases in the region increased by 60 per cent compared to the week before.

The biggest week-on-week increase happened in Malvern Hills where cases increased by 98 per cent to 357 cases in the week up to July 18.

A total of 429 cases were recorded in Redditch in the same week – rising by 93 per cent when compared to the week before.

In Wyre Forest, cases increased by 74 per cent to rise to 535 cases for the week.

The continued rise in cases in the last week follows a month in which numbers surged by a huge 1,800 per cent in Worcester and 1,100 per cent across the county.

An even bigger surge took place in Malvern Hills with cases rising by 3,220 per cent from five on June 10 to 166 a month later. The number has since doubled in the last week.
