Woman sentenced for faking pregnancy during lockdown

A children’s hospital nurse has been given a 4-month suspended sentence for 18 months a 3-year restraining order against the victim and his mother and told to pay a £500 fine to the victim after admitting she made up a series of lies about being pregnant and giving birth during lockdown.

Alexandra Gregory, 25, of Brookhouse Lane, Ham Green, Redditch, sent fake scans, mocked up photos of her baby bump and hounded her former boyfriend with hundreds of phone messages.

Gregory had been in a relationship with her victim for around three months.

She pleaded guilty at Worcester Magistrates Court to sending the images and messages during the Covid-19 lockdown to her former boyfriend between October 2020 and February 2021 under the Malicious Communications Act 1988.

Gregory told her victim after the relationship ended that she had become pregnant, and that the child was his.

In January 2021 she claimed she had given birth to a baby girl she called Aria, who was premature and in hospital.

The victim’s mother suspected that this was not true despite Gregory sending ‘scans’ of the baby, photos of her in the hospital and having baby clothes at the house.

Gregory even took teddy bears to her victim’s house and asked him to sleep with the bear so she could give it to Aria to know his scent.

She would often bombard her victim with messages if he ignored her and one occasion called him more than 200 times a day.

The offences took place during the Covid pandemic, and she often reminded him he shouldn’t be leaving the house as it would put their baby at risk. She sent him lists of items he needed to buy for the baby and asked him to pay child maintenance too.

Claiming the baby was premature, she sent her victim voice notes asking if he wanted to sign a Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) form for the baby and sent detailed medical ‘updates’ on her progress.

The victim’s mother then became more suspicious that Gregory was not telling the truth and reported it to the police.

Officers attended Gregory’s address and she admitted that the baby did not exist. The victim and his family were then informed and following the initial police investigations, the victim cut contact with Gregory who then claimed the baby had died.

PC Rosanna Stone, who was the investigating officer, said: “I have been speaking with the victim for almost three years now and in my opinion his life has been severely permanently emotionally damaged due to Gregory’s actions.

“She has since gone on to have a child with another partner but answered no comment in interviews.”
