West Mercia Police have been praising the hard work of its Special Constables.
There are currently 50 Special Constables working for West Mercia Police, and a further 28 in training who will be out on patrol in March this year.
They provide a vital role as volunteer police officers and give up their free time to help keep our local communities across Herefordshire, Shropshire and Worcestershire safe from harm.
In 2023, Special Constables have:
- Volunteered for 20,417 hours
- Made 107 Arrests, and supported with 396 more
- Stopped 1106 Vehicles, and seized 114
- Dealt with 353 incidents of anti-social behaviour, and made 67 drug seizures.
Special Constables are voluntary, part-time police officers, who have the same powers as normal police officers but volunteer their time for a minimum of 16 hours a month.
