Developers now want to build 1,500 homes near Bridgnorth in a revised plan.
Taylor Wimpey and Bloor Homes have submitted a new application asking Shropshire Council for a ‘scoping opinion’ to support outline planning permission for the scheme in Tasley.
Employment land covering 14.6 hectares, a local centre that will potentially include specialist living for older people, a nursery and primary school, and small retail units are also part of the development.
A similar application was made in July, with Shropshire Council providing its ‘sceening opinion’ the following September.
However, the new proposal is for 450 more homes, with the overall site increasing from 89.16ha to 112.45ha. The area of employment land has been reduced.
Should the scheme be approved, it is expected that construction work would start in the summer of 2026. This will last for about 15 years, with a delivery rate of around 100 homes per year.
“The proposed development is envisaged to be served by three principal vehicular access points – two to serve the residential areas, and a separate access or the employment area,” said Pegasus Group, who are representing the developers.
“The residential area will include a main route running from a new access off Ludlow Road to the east, through the site and linking with a new access onto the A458 to the north of the Garden Village.
“The main access route will act as a sustainable transport corridor, and will be
designed to accommodate cars, pedestrians and cyclists, as well as a new bus route including the provision of waiting facilities and shelters at new bus stops.
“An additional access into the employment area will be provided via a new access on the A458 further west, with additional pedestrian links to the surrounding area.”
The report adds that the homes will be a mix of market and affordable housing, while the potential specialist older persons complex will be four storeys high.
Meanwhile, the employment area would provide a range of uses, including space for starter businesses and larger floorspace/plots capable of
accommodating the expansion of existing Bridgnorth businesses and to help attract new inward investment.
