Latest figures show rise in COVID-19 cases in Worcestershire

The number of new coronavirus cases in the county has continued to rise according to the latest figures with almost half of the cases recorded in Worcester.

Public Health England said a total of 101 cases were recorded in Worcestershire in the week up to May 20 – a rise of 63 per cent compared to the week before.

The latest figures show 49 cases were recorded in the city in the week up to May 20 – a rise of 104 per cent compared to the previous week.

The infection rate in Worcester is now 48.4 cases per 100,000 people.

A total of 17 cases were recorded in Malvern Hills – a rise of 21 per cent compared to the previous week and 12 cases were recorded in Wychavon which includes Evesham, Pershore and Droitwich.

Five parts of Worcester were included on Public Health England’s coronavirus hotspot map due to increasing infection rates.

A total of 12 cases were recorded in Ronkswood and Nunnery Wood in the week up to May 20 – increasing from five cases a week earlier.

The infection rate in Ronkswood and Nunnery Wood is currently 183.2 cases per 100,000 people and is the highest in the city.

The infection rate in King George’s Field – which covers WR3 and WR4 postcodes including parts of Astwood Road, Tolladine Road, Langdale Drive, Brickfields Road and Blackpole Road – was 144.5 cases per 100,000 people according to Public Health England.

Nine cases were recorded in Battenhall and Diglis meaning the infection rate was 108 cases per 100,000 people.

The infection rate in Warndon East was 47.8 cases per 100,000 people and the rate in Lyppard Grange was 82.9 cases per 100,000 people.

Elsewhere in the county, seven cases were recorded in Redditch and four cases were recorded in Bromsgrove. Seven cases were recorded in Wyre Forest according to Public Health England.
