A popular bakery chain looks set to move into a bigger High Street shop under new plans.

Gregg’s has put forward plans to move into the former Pret A Manger store in Worcester’s High Street with more outdoor seating.

Space for seven tables and 24 chairs for customers will be provided outside the new Greggs shop.

Pret A Manger announced it would be permanently shutting its High Street store last June as part of more than 30 closures across the country.

The sandwich and coffee chain blamed the closures on the Covid lockdown hitting trade which resulted in sales plummeting by more than three quarters.

Worcester’s first Pret A Manager opened on the corner of St Swithin’s Street and Worcester High Street in 2017 in the building formerly occupied by Santander bank.

The sandwich shop did not reopen last June after restrictions were eased following the first national lockdown.

Greggs was revealed as one of three new stores to be opening in Blackpole Retail Park in Worcester, alongside Costa and a new tanning salon, last year.

The plans can be viewed via the planning section of Worcester City Council’s website.

The application number is 21/00491/FUL.
