As many as 43 people are in hospital in Worcestershire with Covid, the latest figures show.

NHS England said the number of people in one of the county’s hospitals with coronavirus on September 7 included three people in intensive care.

The number of people in hospital with Covid increased from 40 in the previous seven days and has not fallen below 30 since mid-July.

The latest hospital admission figures come as new coronavirus cases in the county increased by 15 per cent in the last week.

Public Health England said a total of 1,827 new cases were recorded in Worcestershire in the week up to September 4.

Wyre Forest saw a huge increase in the number of new coronavirus cases in the week rising by more than 56 per cent to 387.

The number of new cases fell by more than eight per cent in Worcester to 253 during the same week.

A total of 42 cases were recorded in King George’s Field – the area covering WR3 and WR4 postcodes including parts of Astwood Road, Tolladine Road, Langdale Drive, Brickfields Road and Blackpole Road – which was the highest number of new cases in the city in the week as well as the biggest weekly rise at just over 27 per cent.

The surge in cases meant the area was included on Public Health England’s coronavirus hotspot map.

A total of 186 cases were recorded in Malvern Hills in the week – a rise of eight per cent compared to the week before – including 71 cases in Malvern.

Malvern Link was also included on Public Health England’s coronavirus hotspot map due to a surge in cases.

A total of 28 cases were recorded in the week – a rise of nearly 155 per cent compared to the week before.

Cases increased by more than 22 per cent in Wychavon, which includes Evesham, Pershore and Droitwich, to 324 for the week.

The highest number of cases recorded among the county’s six districts was Bromsgrove where new cases increased by 13 per cent in a week to 411.

New cases increased slightly by just one per cent in Redditch to 266 in the week up to September 4.
