Residents invited to have their say on Monmouthshire budget proposals

Monmouthshire County Council will be hosting a series of public meetings to share their 2020/21 budget proposals with residents.

The meetings will take place in the north and south of the county, with a special Access for All meeting also taking place in partnership with the Disability Advice Project and local fifty plus groups. 

•           Tuesday 14th January 6.30pm, Chepstow Community Hub, 9 Bank Street, Chepstow, NP16 5EN.

•           Wednesday 22nd January 6.30pm, Abergavenny Library, Baker Street, Abergavenny, NP7 5BD.

•           Access for All Forum, Budget Meeting – Friday 17th January 11.00am- 2pm St Mary’s Priory Centre, Abergavenny.

The meetings hope to provide an opportunity for residents to hear from Cllr Phil Murphy, Cabinet Member for Resources and ask any questions that they may have. Residents who are not able to attend the meetings can view a short film, look at all the proposals and share their views via an online survey by visiting the Monmouthshire County Council website: https://www.monmouthshire.gov.uk/budget-2020-2021/

The Access for All meeting will focus on the Monmouthshire County Council budget proposals affecting vulnerable residents. At the event, people with disabilities, parents of children with disabilities and older people from across Monmouthshire will hear from council officers about the budget proposals and will have an opportunity to ask questions.

The forum is a valuable platform to enable residents to have their voice heard, receive information and contribute to consultation and engagement processes.

The Access for All forum is supported and coordinated by Tony Crowhurst of the Disability Advice Project (DAP). DAP is an organisation which advocates for the rights of individuals with disabilities. The meeting will provide a platform for residents to hear about the newly acquired Lottery funding the Disability Advice project have obtained which will help the project support disabled people and their families with advice on a whole host of issues. A representative from the National Lottery will also be at the meeting to promote the wide range of funding opportunities available for communities in Monmouthshire. 

Cllr Phil Murphy Cabinet Member for Resources said: “I hope that residents are able to come along to the meetings, they really are a great opportunity to become informed and to share their thoughts on the proposals. We have tried to provide as many avenues for our communities to get involved, we have an online survey and we will listen to feedback via our social media channels. 

I feel the Access for All meeting will provide an opportunity for our most vulnerable residents to have their voices heard, share ideas and suggestions whilst becoming informed about things that affect them.  If residents are not able to come along more information can be found on the council website where a survey is available to post thoughts.”
