A new charity shop has opened in Ross on Wye.

The opening of the St Michael’s Hospice shop on Cantilupe Road saw dozens descend on the large store, which is now the third St Michael’s outlet in the town.

Ross Mayor, Councillor Ed O’Driscoll, was among those to officially open the store, which will initially open six days a week, with plans in place for Sunday opening in due course.

Esme and her daughter Ellie were first in the queue.

“I’m quite passionate about second hand shopping,” said Esme. “I always try to shop responsibly. It’s very important to me.”

The first few dozen shoppers were able to enjoy a welcome drink and a goody bag.

“We’ve been blown away by the support of the community,” said Rachel Jones, the Hospice’s Income Generation, Marketing and Communications Director.

“It’s been wonderful to see so many people queuing to enter our new shop, and to hear the till ringing from the moment those doors opened.

“If you weren’t able to join us for the opening, there’s still plenty of opportunity to visit us. We’re open Monday to Saturday from 9am-5pm, with plans in place for Sunday opening in due course.”
