Neighbours have expressed anger at a Herefordshire hotel bar’s bid to sell alcohol and food and to provide live entertainment until 1am each night.

Casey Nicholls-Floyd of the Swan Hotel in Kington said in his application, submitted in September, that he wanted the venue to “develop a programme of occasional entertainment including vocalists and other live musicians”.

The hotel already has a licence to host music until 11.30pm six nights a week.

But a consultation on his bid to extend the licence drew six objections from nearby residents.

One, their details redacted as with all such submissions, wrote that a later licence would “exacerbate noise and perhaps add to other misbehaviour and drink driving”.

Another, hand-written submission from a near neighbour said: “If I had to stay awake until 1am whenever they choose to have music, dancing, alcohol, that would be very difficult.”

A third claimed the proposal was “tantamount to allowing a disco in a residential area” adding: “The lack of consultation with the local residents is astonishing.”

Given the strength of local feeling, the application has been passed to Herefordshire Council’s licensing subcommittee of councillors to decide on later this week.
