Councillors have shared their frustration about dealing with the police in Ludlow.
Jon Campion, police and crime commissioner for West Mercia Police, and Inspector Damien Kelly attended Ludlow Town Council’s latest meeting.
However, they were told that officers are not getting back to them about various matters.
“Three times now I’ve reported incidents and have nothing back whatsoever – I find that appalling,” said Councillor Robert Hall.
“I have dealt with several police forces over the years, and West Mercia seem to be one of the worst with a lack of response.”
Councillor Viv Parry also shared her frustration, saying there has been no police presence at town council meetings for months.
“You don’t come back to us on anything at all,” she said.
In reponse, Mr Campion said that if anyone feels they don’t get the service they want over the telephone, he has happy to listen back to the call.
“The police get 10,000 calls a week and some of them are not going to be handled well because they are a human-based service,” said Mr Campion.
“If anyone is told by the 101 service to report it online, then there has been a misunderstanding or miscommunication. If they are talking to you, they should take down the information and record it so it goes on the same system. If you have been a victim of crime, you should get the right updates.”
Insp Kelly said the team is full now Ludlow, and officers are in frequent contact with the clerk.
“We know there is an issue of drugs, as there are with any major town,” said Insp Kelly.
“Our approach varies depending on the area. We’ve got our local organised crime team based in Shrewsbury who frequently work to tackle drugs in the town. One thing we can do better though is telling you what we’re doing.”
