Worcester rapist jailed for 10 years

A Worcester man has been jailed for 10 years after being convicted of multiple sex offences, some involving a child.

Justin Hughes, aged 46, was handed the sentence at Worcester Crown Court on Wednesday 5 March, having been found guilty of numerous child sex offences including indecent assault and rape, following a trial in January.

The offences were committed between 1993 and 2002.

In addition to the custodial sentence, Hughes has been placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.

DC Sarah Grayson, who was part of the investigation team, said: “The victim in this case showed huge amounts of courage and tenacity, both in coming forward to report the horrific abuse, and during the investigation and criminal justice process.

“Securing this conviction was a team effort and officers worked tirelessly to ensure Hughes was brought to justice.

“We hope the sentence handed to Hughes sends out a clear message to all victims of sexual assault that we will pursue investigations with vigour and sensitivity.

“It doesn’t matter how long ago abuse took place, we take all cases seriously and will investigate. I’d encourage anyone who has been a victim of sexual assault to come forward, and be assured that they will get the support they need.”
