Westfields recorded their best win of the season with a resounding 3-1 home win over title chasing Cribbs at allpay.park last night.

Westfields, who came back from back-to-back defeats in the Hellenic League Premier Division, did themselves a power of good and maintained their 7th position in the league with 3 valuable points following an excellent victory over the visiting Bristol side.

Westfields played with more zest, enthusiasm and commitment than in their previous 2 matches and got their just rewards when dangerman Dan Stoneman had a fine game and caused the visitors all sorts of problems.

Westfields took the lead in the 15th minute when Stoneman was brought down in the penalty area and Josh Hunt dispatched the penalty to give Westfields a 1-0 lead.

However, this was short-lived and Cribbs pulled level 2 minutes later when they equalised after a shot had hit the post, rebounded off Ian Havard and into the net from an acute angle.

Play swung from end-to-end in an exciting opening 45 minutes and Westfields restored the lead in the 30th minute when again Stoneman provided the chance and Richard Greaves bundled the ball over the line to give Westfields a 2-1 interval lead.

After the break both sides attacked, particularly down the flanks where Stoneman and Harrison Summers were very dangerous and it came as no surprise when youngster Summers seized on a defensive lapse by the Bristol side to power home a shot from 12 yards to put Westfields into a commanding 3-1 lead.

Cribbs came back forcefully and Kane Kahaki was outstanding at the heart of the Westfields defence alongside Joe Davies whilst upfront Josh Hunt and twin striker Richard Greaves worked hard to try and score a 4th goal.

Westfields contained the lively visitors, particularly in midfield where Harry Iddles and Matt MacDonald both performed admirably in a good team performance that secured Westfields a valuable 3 points following their recent 2 defeats.

On Saturday Westfields go to Bradford Town and then next Tuesday Westfields return to allpay.park to play Longlevens, kick-off 7.45pm, again in the Hellenic League Premier Division.
