A building in a prominent Hereford spot is the latest in the city to be converted into flats.

A planning application (number 243260) by Urfan Khan seeks retrospective permission for work done to turn the upper floors of 15-17 Eign Gate into three one-and two-bedroom flats.

A similar bid was passed in 2017 but this approval has since lapsed.

The ground floor of the three-storey building currently houses a barber’s.

External changes for which permission is now sought include a new first-floor window and door onto the shop extension to the rear, and the installation of two roof lights.

A statement with the application says the changes are of “modest scale”, and “would appear in keeping with similar features in the immediate area”.

At 44 square metres, the smallest, one-bedroom loft flat would be larger than national minimum statndards, while all three would have natural light front and back.

The properties would have no parking or outdoor space – though green space around the cathedral is a four-minutre walk away, the application points out.

Comments on the proposal can be made until March 6.
