Herefordshire Council wants residents to have their say on proposed changes to schools admission policies relating to children adopted from care outside of England.

The changes, which would meet the guidelines recommended by the Minister of State for School Standards, would see the authority give priority to children who have previously been in state care outside of England, and have ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted.

If agreed the proposed changes to Priority 1 and 2 of the policies would be implemented as follows:

Priority 1 – Looked after children and children who were looked after in England, but ceased to be due to being adopted or became subject to a residence order or special guardianship order.

Priority 2 – Looked after children and children who were looked after outside of England, but ceased to be due to being adopted or became subject to a residence order or special guardianship order.

You can view the current admissions policies by visiting the Schools and Education page on the council’s website.

To have your say on the proposals please email Louise.Tanner@herefordshire.gov.uk or write to Louise Tanner, Curriculum Manager, Children and Families, Herefordshire Council, Plough Lane, Hereford, HR4 0LE.

The deadline for feedback is 5pm on December 27 2018.

If agreed, the proposed changes will be implemented in the admissions round that opens in September 2019, affecting school admissions for September 2020.
