Residents are being contacted about the first batch of public on-street electric vehicle (EV) chargepoints being installed by Wenea in collaboration with Herefordshire Council.

These chargepoints are the first to be approved as part of the Government’s Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) pilot project. Once installed, they will be Herefordshire’s first public on-street EV charging infrastructure.

Supported by Government funding, the project’s main aim is to make EV charging accessible to a wider range of residents within the county. The proposed chargers will be low-powered 7kW units which is enough to give a full charge overnight for most electric vehicles. This installation will help to give confidence to residents without driveways who are thinking of making the switch to an electric vehicle that they will be able to charge close to their home at an affordable rate.

The first batch of EV chargepoints are planned for:

  • Brampton Road, Hereford
  • Cantilupe Street, Hereford
  • Eign Road, Hereford
  • Etnam Street, Leominster
  • The Square, Kington

These locations have been chosen in consultation with local councillors, council officers, Wenea and in response to resident requests. The proposed chargepoint is designed to be as unobtrusive as possible and no associated parking restrictions are being introduced.

Cllr Philip Price, Herefordshire Council Cabinet Member for Transport and Infrastructure, said: “These new chargepoints are a big step forward for electric vehicles in the county. They are the first step in providing on-street EV charging infrastructure that will help to help meet the rapidly growing demand and support residents who own an electric vehicle but do not have off-street parking.”

Residents living close to the planned installs will be receiving letters in the coming few days with information about the proposed infrastructure and the option to get in touch with Wenea if they have any queries.
